DUCK TRASH

published 10.16

Duck Trash is a solo project by Duck Groves that has been evolving since they were a teen. Duck is a student studying sustainable food systems who works on a farm, lives in a co-op and loves to dumpster dive and make music.

SHUT UP AND LISTEN:

Can you tell us about your background in music?

DUCK:

I used to study music composition at Butler University. I was studying cello for about a semester before I decided I didn’t want to do the whole structured studying music thing. More importantly, I’ve been in a couple of bands like last year I was in Local Surfing and we made a bunch of surf rock about not being able to surf in Indiana. We broke up last spring but we might

get back together in the near future.

SHUT UP AND LISTEN:

How did DUCK TRASH begin?

DUCK:

Well I’ve been writing,  playing, and recording songs since I was like, fifteen so it’s kind of an ongoing thing but it’s only been called Duck Trash for 2 or 3 years. I just perform with a loop pedal, guitar, floor tom drum and vocals.

SHUT UP AND LISTEN:

What's your musical goal?

DUCK:

My goal is to create a little universe that you can space out in for ten

minutes or so.

SHUT UP AND LISTEN:

How has DUCK TRASH changed since it began?

DUCK:

I used to just be an acoustic singer/songwriter but the loop pedal has enabled me to create sounds that I hear in a variety of different ways. I think I’ve

moved away from a specific genres influencing me.
